Fatigue: You are Your First Priority.

A lot of people feel tired often these days and for some, it has become quite constant. 

From day to day energy levels vary. It can be difficult for a person to recognise that they are actually “tired all the time”.

Take a deep breath.

How are you feeling right now?

Feel into your body.

How is it doing?

People get so busy with things to do, needs and desires to be fulfilled, that they are often not aware of how they feel in their body right now.

There is often a sense of pain in the body that comes from long-term fatigue.

The body doesn’t feel well. It exhausts easily. It doesn’t tolerate exercise well and needs rest often.

And yet in this society, we are compelled to do do do! We become doing machines and we base our value around what we can achieve.

We are afraid of missing out. We show that we are enough by doing enough.

Take a breath. So, how are you?

Feel into your body. How is it?

Is this how it feels most days?

Accept where you are right now, whatever else is happening in life. 

When a person is feeling tired a lot, their capacity to do things is lower, but until a person comes home to their body, they may not even realise that.

Because we keep pushing ahead, we never allow ourselves to fully recover.

Over the years it becomes chronic and we get all out of whack.

Suddenly we find ourselves in a position where we are unable to fully recover. Despite rest, we are no longer able to regain our strength and vitality.

Something is amiss and we don’t know what. 

We might be able to push ourselves out of the low state with exercise or caffeine, but without stimulants and stress, we just feel knackered.

And it’s getting worse as time goes on.

So breath.

Be aware of the breath and let it deepen.

Feel the breath and feel into the body.

Come to know your body, what it’s capable of right now and what it’s asking you for.

Chronic stress impacts the body and over time overwhelms its ability to adapt. 

Constant fatigue may be triggered by an illness, but it is also the long work hours, the late nights, relentless caffeine and unresolved emotions that all add up and chip away at our metabolic reserve.

In a real sense, the energy generators of the body, the mitochondria, the adrenals and the thyroid become older.

They age. Constant use has worn them out.

But they can regenerate. Their function can be restored but it takes a specific kind of care.

Hormones and neurotransmitters in an overstressed body become deregulated.

Feedback loops are broken and distorted.  Without mutual support, various bodily systems can’t repair the way they need to.

There is no drug that can fix a problem like this. The body must heal itself and to do that it needs the right support and the right conditions.

Nutritional support is ideal to restore and build vitality and health.

The right nutrients in the right amount stimulate hormones and neurotransmitters which trigger biochemical pathways to rebuild and restore the worn and tired energy systems.

Even right now there are things a person can start doing to reduce the impact of stress and give your body some space to recover.

It’s just a matter of creating the right habits.

Start getting to bed at the same time every night, this entrains the circadian rhythm in a cycle of rest and activity.

Develop your intuition around food. Notice how you feel after eating something.

What’s agreeing? What’s not?

What you crave is probably your way of satisfying a deeper need and not what suits them best.

Be aware of that. Is there a better alternative?

Reduce caffeine, the body is not built for constant fight or flight.

Take time out each day to breath slowly and connect in with yourself.  

Sure, you can just watch TV and zone out, but you’ll miss out on developing an awareness of yourself, where you are at and what your needs are. 

You can let yourself connect with how you are instead of trying to avoid it. It’s far easier to make a healthful choice when you’re aware of what you need.

It’s also far easier to see your limitations and know where you need to set a boundary. 

If it takes more than a day to fully recover from an activity, then it’s too much stress for on the body.

Say “no” and set limits on the time spent in situations or with people that leave the batteries drained.

Say “no” to things that give you quick fixes of energy but leave you more exhausted in the long run

Say “yes” to deeper sleep and better rest, even if it means setting your alarm so that you remember to start winding down for bed.

Recovery from ongoing fatigue is easy for some people.

It’s about learning how to pace themselves and understanding that recovery takes time.

For others, who have been fatigued for a long time it will require more than just slowing down.

It will require a deep look at how the body is struggling on a biochemical level, as well as personalised nutritional medicine to support it in its recovery.

10 Reasons to Feel Tired All the Time

Everybody gets tired from time to time, but for some people, it’s a daily struggle. Some people are always tired, and this affects them physically, mentally and emotionally.

Work becomes difficult, sometimes impossible. Physical strength is lacking, and mental focus takes a dive. Instead of enjoying the challenge you just want to rest or procrastinate.

Not only is it a struggle to do things but your mood is impacted too. You may feel down and emotionally drained or “stressed out” and “tired but wired”.

As both energy and mood are affected, a chronically tired person will often skip social events or activities. What can you do when your just not up for it?

A person may feel life is passing them by. It’s frustrating for a person to see their potential wasted, knowing they are capable of so much more, if only there was more gas in the tank.

Days turn into weeks, weeks into months and months into years. Hopes, dreams, aspirations and ambitions are robbed by constant daily fatigue.

Thankfully it is possible to regain your energy levels. Even if you have been stuck for years with chronically low energy levels it is possible to “reboot your system” and regain your energy levels.

There is hope! But how you go about doing this will all depend on what’s causing your fatigue in the first place.

The aim of this post is to help you identify what the root cause of your fatigue is. If you can figure out what’s causing it, you can begin to take steps towards improving your energy levels.

98% of true cases of Fibromyalgia are women, which is interesting. Fibromyalgia can be defined as body-wide pain perceived in the soft tissues. It is often accompanied with consistent fatigue, low moods, anxiety, poor sleep and waking up feeling unrested. There also maybe some gut related issues such as gas, bloating, constipation and/or diarrhoea.

That’s quite a lot of symptoms and for this reason, Fibromyalgia is often misdiagnosed. In fact, when put under the scrutiny of a board of Rheumatoid experts in Fibromyalgia, two-thirds of patients have been shown to be misdiagnosed!

Christmas is time to relax and enjoy the company of loved ones. It’s also a time of feasting and merriment. In traditional times when food was not so abundant,  feasting meant fine meats, seasonal vegetables and traditional homemade puddings. Just having that was considered well off as being able to afford good food was not something everybody enjoyed.

These days we have an abundance of food. Year round we are overfed but often undernourished. Modern diets are usually high in sugar and refined carbohydrates while low in vital nutrients needed for good health. At Christmas, this goes into overdrive as we gorge on sweet things, alcohol, coffees and other treats.

If you’re anything like me there comes a point during Christmas where it starts to feel like too much. Too many parties, late nights, buckets of chocolates and my favourite mince pies, all take their toll on your health and state of well being. Christmas week draws on and the hangover intensifies.
